This year, the Clivo Sailing Cup set sail with a new mission – connecting sport, education, and care for the environment. In partnership with Back to Blu, the organisers added a simple but powerful goal to the regatta: to show children that protecting the sea begins with everyday choices.
Turning competition into education
Led by Tina Mihelić, double Olympian and Project Manager, the event included playful, eco-themed activities such as a scavenger hunt and educational games. Held at the Medulin campsite, the regatta offered a rare mix of fun and learning, helping young sailors see that sport and sustainability can go hand in hand.
“We weren’t sure how the kids would respond after sailing all day,” Tina shared. “But they couldn’t wait to start searching for the plastic eggs. Their excitement showed us how naturally children respond to doing good.”
Small choices that make a big difference
The organisers took further steps to make the event more responsible – switching to paper plates and cups, and providing organic cotton T-shirts for competitors and staff. While some changes required more planning, they proved that even small shifts can leave a lasting mark.
A ripple effect beyond the shore
The initiative drew positive reactions from the Tourist Board of Medulin and the Arena Hospitality Group, encouraging other organisers to explore the same direction. As Tina put it, “If the organiser doesn’t care about nature, neither will the competitors. Change starts with example.”
Looking ahead
Partnerships like this reflect what Back to Blu stands for – real action, local collaboration, and education that lasts beyond one event. Because the sea gives us so much. It’s time we give something back.
