Exhibition Back to Blu: Povezani morem

With the exhibition Back to Blu: Povezani morem (Connected by the Sea), we wanted to tell another story about the sea. This time through art.

As part of the collaboration between Back to Blu and Fiumanka, the works of Italian artist Eugenio Giaccone and Croatian artist Anđelka Maras were brought together at the Juraj Klović Gallery in Rijeka. Although their artistic expressions differ, both artists draw inspiration from the same source – the sea.

The exhibition was held in Rijeka during the 27th edition of Fiumanka, one of the most significant sailing events in the Adriatic.

Inspired by the sea

Through bold colours, rich textures and dynamic movement, Giaccone captures the energy of sailing, wind and open waters. Anđelka Maras offers a more intimate perspective on the coast, sails and the Mediterranean way of life. In their own distinct ways, both artists remind us how deeply the sea is woven into the identity of the places we call home.

The exhibition was created from a desire to look at the sea beyond its everyday roles. We wanted to explore it not only as a place of sport, work or leisure, but also as a space that shapes communities, connects people and leaves a lasting mark on their stories. For several days, the Juraj Klović Gallery became a meeting point for art, sailing, sustainability and conversation.

Beyond the exibition

Alongside the exhibition, visitors could explore the limited BTB x Fiumanka collection. They also had the opportunity to learn more about the projects Back to Blu supports through education, environmental initiatives and community development. A Back to Blu Click & Collect point was available within the gallery, helping visitors explore not only the collection itself, but also the values behind it.

Throughout the exhibition, numerous conversations emerged around the sea, the identity of coastal communities and our shared responsibility towards the spaces we inhabit. Creating a space for these encounters, exchanges of ideas and new perspectives was one of the key goals behind Back to Blu: Povezani morem.
